UK-based Pan African Resources has been awarded a mining licence on its Manica exploration project in Mozambique.
The mining licence, converted from a prospecting licence, gives Pan African—an African-focused gold mining company—the ability to move the project forward to development stage.
The Manica licence area is situated in central Mozambique, approximately four kilometres north of Manica, which lies about 270 kilometres inland from the port city of Beira.
A pre-feasibility study relating to mining the oxide and some sulphide-bearing mineralised material was completed in December last year. A detailed pre-feasibility study is now nearing completion on the remainder of the sulphide-bearing mineralised material.
The results of both studies will be published towards the beginning of the third quarter of this year.
Commenting on the announcement, Jan Nelson, CEO of Pan African, commented: "We are pleased to have been awarded this mining licence on the Manica Project as well as with the overall progress on the project to date.
“Once the pre-feasibility study is completed, we will be in a position to review how we move the project forward."
